In my last article, Quest bars were my top pick for the best protein/ nutrition bars. They are a good option if you are too busy to eat some real food.
In one of my recent videos I took a bunch of them and reviewed almost every Quest bar flavor and chose a few of my favorites and a few that I didn’t like as much.
I thought it would be a little more interesting if expanded on my choices and ranked every single flavor, so that’s what this article is all about. (I’ve even tried the Pumpkin Pie flavor which is missing from the original video.)
There are some great flavors and there are definitely a few stinkers. With that said, even the worst tasting Quest bar is better tasting than a lot of the other “healthy” bars out there.
My video review is below, but under that is my full list, ranked from best to worst, broken down into 4 tiers. So here we go with the Quest bar review…
‘Top of the Line’ Tier
1. Mint Chocolate Chunk
I am a big fan of minty chocolate and this flavor hits the spot. This is my first go-to pick for Quest bars. The difference in colors (green and brown) makes it a little more visually interesting.
2. Double Chocolate Chunk
Who doesn’t love chocolate? There are 2 pure chocolate flavors and this one is leaps and bounds better than the other one. Rich chocolate flavor and not overpoweringly sweet. This is my other go-to pick.
3. Apple Pie
This is the best non-chocolate flavor in my opinion. Little chunks of apple, cinnamon and a little bit of sweetness is a perfect combo. Not a lot of protein bars put real fruit chunks in their bar so this stood out to me and made me a fan from the first bite.
4. White Chocolate Raspberry
I like raspberry flavors, but don’t always eat them because the seeds get stuck in my teeth easily. I didn’t have that problem with this bar. Great raspberry flavor with a little white chocolate is a good way to round out the top tier.
‘Switching It Up So I Don’t Get Bored’ Tier
5. Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough
Most people I’ve talked to love this flavor. The first time I tried it I thought it was too sweet. I’ve tried it a few times since then and have changed my mind a bit. I enjoy it and use it as a change up from some of the other top tier flavors.
6. Cookies & Cream
Usually cookies and cream flavors are one of my top choices but I wasn’t impressed with he Quest bar iteration. Not to say it is bad, but I my expectations were higher, especially compared to some of the other richer flavors like Double Chocolate Chunk.
7. Mixed Berry Bliss
A little bit of strawberry, a little bit of blueberry and a little bit of almond give this flavor a nice balance. I’ve seen this flavor get some hate on the net, but I like it. Maybe my expectations were low, but his would be my number 2 rated non-chocolate flavor.
‘Isn’t There Anything Better?’ Tier
8. S’Mores
I must disclose that when I was growing up S’Mores were never my thing. I always thought the concept of mixing those foods together was cool, but I always thought it should taste better whenever I ate one. I feel the same way about this bar. You can see chunks of chocolate and things that look like graham crackers, but when I taste it I end up thinking, ‘why doesn’t this taste better?.’ The chocolate brings this bar up a few notches for me. Without it, it’s just a bland cinnamon tasting bar.
9. Lemon Cream Pie
Lemon bars are usually not my thing. Most of them are too sweet for me, but this one isn’t that bad. Good, solid lemon flavor and that’s about it. Not bad, but not awesome.
10. Coconut Cashew
I definitely taste coconut in this bar and that is a good thing. What I don’t taste is any nuts. I see them in the bar and on the ingredient list but the it is overshadowed by the coconut. This is another solid flavor, but I dropped it down a few spots because I didn’t taste the cashews.
11. Banana Nut Muffin
I like banana flavored foods and this is the only Quest bar with a banana flavor. I’ve tried this flavor a few times and sometimes I think it’s too sweet and others I think it is just right. This bar is pretty good but other than that there isn’t much else to say.
12. Vanilla Almond Crunch
Vanilla is good and almonds are good but like the Coconut Cashew, the flavor overpowers the nuts. I like this as a change up from some of the other flavors because it has a little crunchiness, but I’d be bored if I had to eat this bar over and over.
‘Why Did I Buy This Flavor?’ Tier
13. Chocolate Peanut Butter
I love peanut butter, but peanut butter flavored bars are not my thing. The chocolate flavor pushes it above the other peanut flavors, but I was not too impressed with this one.
14. Cinnamon Roll
My expectation for this bar was very low. I am not a fan of cinnamon rolls so I was pleasantly surprised that this bar was not as bad as I thought it would be. On its own the bar is pretty good but if I want cinnamon flavor, I’m going with the Apple Pie. Cinnamon and sweet are the two words that come to my mind when I think about this flavor. The sweet is not too overpowering so this bar escapes my bottom 3.
15. Pumpkin Pie (Limited Edition Flavor)
Since this is a limited edition flavor that was available during the holiday season, it took me a while to try it. I had yet to try one when I made the review video, but I did manage to get my hands on one and wasn’t very impressed. It tasted very similar to the Cinnamon Roll flavor except for a orange coating and a little crunch.
16. Peanut Butter Supreme
I tried this bar a long time ago and honestly can’t remember it. I guess that not too bad, but it’s not good either. Like I said before, peanut flavor isn’t my favorite thing in a protein bar so this goes into my bottom tier.
17. Chocolate Brownie
If all I tasted was this bar, I would think it’s pretty good. It’s a basic chocolate protein bar that tastes like every other chocolate protein bar out there. The reason it winds up in the bottom 3 is because of the Double Chocolate Chunk flavor. That flavor is so good that it makes the only other chocolate-only flavor seem pretty meh.
18. Strawberry Cheesecake
Is this bar bad? No, but is seems so similar to other bars that I’ve tried in the past. Not even the little bits of strawberry help to separate it from the pack and it’s a shame because cheesecake is one of my favorite cheat deserts.
19. Peanut Butter & Jelly
I can’t begin to describe how disappointing this flavor was. When I am sick, one of the foods I crave is a peanut butter and jelly sandwich. I’m not sure why, since it’s not very healthy. When I saw this flavor I was happy to be able to eat a healthy version of one of my childhood foods. I can tell you that this did not remind me of a peanut better, jelly sandwich at all. It does have a peanut flavor but that’s about it. Would I eat this again? If there were no other healthy options around, then yes… but that scenario isn’t very likely.
Wrapping Up
I hope you enjoyed my analysis in the Quest bar review. Everyone I’ve spoken to has their own favorites and not all are the same as mine. I’d love to hear from you to see which you think are the best. Leave a comment down below or message me on twitter.
